FAQ
-
Who are Unlikely Collaborators?
Unlikely Collaborators exists to help individuals and communities resolve conflict through self-investigation and self-understanding by providing tools and opportunities for Perception Box exploration, expansion, and celebration.
Thanks to the generosity of Unlikely Collaborators, we are able to offer this one-of-a-kind event to educators at a reasonable and sustainable cost. Want to learn more about the UC mission? Check out their website.
-
Do I have to be a professor to attend?
In short, no. While the Professors at Play Playposium focuses on teaching in the higher education setting, we see plenty of connections with other areas of instruction—including segments in K12, as well as corporate training departments, and beyond. If the programming and purpose of the Playposium speak to you, we want you there!
-
How do I justify this trip to my department chair/boss/funding agency?
The programming at the Playposium is all about helping you find a path to improve your teaching, to better support your students and to expand the mission of playful pedagogy to transform education. If that is not enough, you can also list actionable approaches to teaching that will result in student success, networking with like-minded professors to extend your professional networks, refreshing your commitment to teaching, and more.
-
Isn’t this expensive for a conference?
If you consider that your conference fee covers all your food and lodging, in addition to the event itself, we think it’s a bargain! We have worked to keep the cost as low as possible and still pull off an amazing gathering in an amazing place.
Can’t afford it but really want to come? Thanks to Unlikely Collaborators, we have scholarships available!
-
I want to present! How do I do that?
We are working on the Playposium schedule now and would love to hear what you have to offer! Just email us at hello@professorsatplay.org and let us know what you’d like to do.
-
Do you have scholarships?
Yes! Thanks to the generosity of Unlikely Collaborators, we have a number of full and partial scholarships available. If you have need, please send an email explaining what you’d like to get out of the Playposium and how we can help get you there! hello@professorsatplay.org
-
I have special needs or accommodation requests. Can you help me?
Please reach out. We will work with the Kennedy Mountain Campus staff to accommodate as wide a range of needs as we can.
-
Do you accommodate special diet needs?
Yes! The Kennedy Mountain Campus dining hall can accommodate vegan vegetarian, gluten-free and other dietary restrictions. We will make sure you are taken care of.
-
I’ve never been to camp before, what should I expect?
The Kennedy Mountain Campus is nestled over 8,000 feet in elevation in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Most people need some time to acclimate to the altitude. And while we want to make the outdoors a big part of this Playposium, we will not require anyone to perform any highly strenuous activity. We will be providing attendees with a detailed “How to Prep for Camp” document with more details.
-
Are we really sleeping in bunks?
Yes! The DU Kennedy Mountain Campus was formerly a Girl Scout Camp. And while all of the facilities have been updated, the camp still works like a camp, with bunks, shared baths and a dining hall. You can find more information here.
-
How do I get there?
We arranged bus transportation from the University of Denver campus to the mountain campus on Tuesday. We expect the shuttles to leave between noon and 2 on Monday and to return to Denver by noon on Friday.
There is a light rail system that you can take from the Denver International Airport to the DU campus.
If you’d prefer to drive, the Kennedy Mountain Campus has a limited number of parking spots available.
-
Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes! And electricity too. Just because we are in the woods, you won’t be cut off from civilization.
